Ivona Dominik is a Croatian saxophonist based in Vienna. She began her musical education at the Miroslav Magdalenić Art School in Čakovec (Croatia) and continued it at the Varaždin Music School. She is currently studying concert saxophone and instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She also received artistic inspiration at the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School in Vienna and through numerous master classes and international workshops.
During her training, she received multiple awards at regional and international competitions. She participated in renowned festivals such as Wien Modern, the European Saxophone Congress in Trento, Belgrade Saxperience, the Woodwind Symposium Riga, and Chamber Music for Saxophone in Granada.
As a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber musician, she is dedicated to a versatile repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music. Her concert performances have taken her to venues such as the Musikverein Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace Theatre, MuTh, Vienna City Hall, and Porgy & Bess. As an orchestral musician, she also participated in a production of Puccini's Turandot at the Vienna State Opera.
A special focus of her artistic work lies in chamber music. She is the baritone saxophonist of the Aurora Saxophone Quartet, which collaborates with young Austrian composers. In addition, she founded the Duo Bossa Noga with guitarist Jakov Golubić, in which she explores various musical styles beyond the boundaries of classical music.
In addition to her concert activities, Ivona is intensely involved in music education. Through her work with children in music and language courses, as well as her role as a teaching assistant, she combines artistic practice with pedagogical experience.
